We are excited to announce the addition of a new program here at our Tustin location: The
PREP School by PVP!
Pursuant to our mission to consistently and continuously provide opportunities for our
students—and students who would benefit from our offerings we have completed
construction of three additional classrooms solely focused on serving students who would
benefit from a higher academic emphasis, a quieter environment, and a therapeutic
component working in tandem with behavior analysis.
Program Description
Environmental stimuli affects us all individually and in different ways. Consequently, there
are students who do not have the opportunity to thrive in traditional settings or special
education settings due to the presence of certain stimuli that may trigger feelings of anxiety,
fear, or apprehensiveness.
Our new program, The PREP School, seeks to give these types of students a safe space to
learn, make friends, and achieve their individual potential.
Academics
The PREP School is comprised of a strong academic emphasis. All enrollees are pursuing a
high school diploma via traditional or alternate means. Learning will be based on and
measured against minimum state standards and will include all necessary components for
graduation.
Exposure to academics will be partnered with access to supports so that students can learn
information, retain the information, and apply the information toward their individual goals.
Goals
This program takes a unique approach to students’ IEP goals. Because The PREP School is
based on standards and requirements leading to graduation, individualized goals will focus
more on each student’s unique goals for themselves as they relate to personal, social, and
professional aspirations.
Enrollment in this endeavor is a pact with each student to pursue every means possible to
help them reach the bar they have set for themselves. As students are exposed to learning
and special opportunities, their goals may change. As a result of each student’s evolution, we
will ensure that their unique and individual goals evolve with them.
Opportunities
For students to decide what they like and what they dislike or what they want to pursue or
don’t. They will be exposed to a myriad of career, social, and educational opportunities. This
type of exposure demands ongoing preference assessments so that each student’s
curriculum can tie directly into their personal aspirations.
Without exposure, students may be unable to anticipate, plan, and, most importantly, look
forward to their futures. As students zero in on their personal aspirations, we hypothesize
that their progress will accelerate.
Services
The PREP School provides supports and services for students to assist in their lifelong
growth and development. These services include:
- Weekly Group Therapy
- Weekly Social Skills Groups (PEERS)
- Individual Counseling
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Adaptive Physical Education
Classroom Size and Ratios
Each classroom that is part of The PREP School will have a maximum ratio of 12 students to 1
credentialed teacher.
Additionally, each classroom will include:
- A minimum of one Classroom Support Provider (Paraprofessional)
- One Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
- One Speech and Language Pathologist or Speech and Language Pathology Assistant
- One Occupational Therapist or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Closing Statement
Time and time again, we witness the underutilization of student skills and potential simply
because they are well behaved. Internally, there is much to discover emotions, goals,
aspirations, and dreams.
The PREP School aims to target students who may fall through the cracks in larger, more
populated settings by providing the education and individualized care they so deserve.
We look forward to touring you and sharing more about this new offering at PVP
